Motivation/Personal Interest
I chose this project because of my personal interest to investigate cancer and its causes as also to find ways in which we can play a role in fighting this deadly disease. Losing someone dear to me to cancer drove me to investigate this topic. My investigative report explores microbiology, nature & its laws, and the interconnectedness of human lifestyles & the natural environment.
Process Planning
The research was essential for writing a successful investigative report. I used a variety of primary and secondary sources to write the investigative report, ranging from scientific articles, websites, and essays. The majority of my research included reliable sources from the World Health Organization, the American Institute for Cancer Research, Cancer Research Society, and Volksgezondheidenzorg. I conducted multiple interviews with professors involved in cancer research and analyzed stastics, data, and cancer trends over the past few decades from the World Health Organization (WHO) on the basis of which I could communicate ways in which humankind can prevent the onset of this deadly disease by tackling modifiable risks.
Criteria
The Investigative Report will:
Make excellent use of referencing to prove whether or not humans are to blame for the increase in incidence in the past decades.
Inform the reader and raise awareness on the ways in which each individual can contribute.
Use appropriate scientific terms and diction.
Use the correct structure and format.
Ensure the general audience can comprehend the report.
Process Taking Action
After collecting all my research and gathering relevant information, I began with brainstorming and creating the contents of the report. As I was writing the report, I conducted additional research on how I will format the report and made changes to the sub-topics along the way. During this phase, I was struggling to manage my time, therefore, I created an action plan to organize my time efficiently. The action plan outlined what I needed to complete each day and helped me to keep on track. Through writing the report, I have learnt of the ways we can prevent the onset of cancer by leading a healthy lifestyle.
